Wr Case Knives

For the Case family the love affair with quality steel dates back to 1889 in Little Valley, New York. Four brothers, William Russell (W.R.), Jean, John and Andrew Case combined their skills to sell knives from the back of a wagon much like traveling tinkers. By 1900 the brothers established Case Brothers Cutlery Company. Eventually each brother would develop his own brand as the sibling partnership dissolved.

By 1905 W.R. relocated his Case knife enterprise to Bradford, Pennsylvania. W.R. Case became a nationally recognized company when the U.S. Military enlisted their help in developing weapons used during World War I. The accolades continued to pour in over the next several decades as W.R. Case pocket knives were used by astronauts and racecar drivers along with Boy Scouts and as premiums for farm implement dealers. Customers continue to order hunting knives to enhance their outdoor experience - and the company grew.

The company boasts that 125 pairs of hands are required to complete one hunting knife in the 21st century. That may be a far cry from the singular craftsmanship of W.R. Case and his brothers, but then again the marketplace today is global with demand for immediacy and quality control.

Today Zippo, another prominent business in Bradford, Pennsylvania, owns the W. R. Case. A museum specifically dedicated to Case knives and Zippo lighters can be found in Bradford. The 15,000 square foot facility allows visitors to see classic and collectible items and provides opportunities to purchase from the companies storehouse of merchandise.

Zero Tolerance Knives 2011

As the day for trick or treating approaches, the idea of safety should be on the minds of all, especially parents of small children.

You may not know this, but the United States Department of Transportation has issued statistics, which demonstrate that the majority of fatal collisions between motor vehicles and young pedestrians (under 15 years of age) happen most frequently between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. (i.e., during trick or treating hours!)

Also, 84% of deaths among young pedestrians occurred at non-intersection locations (indicating children are most likely to dart and dash from mid-block into the street).

Halloween also sees more than its share of automobile accidents because of the number of parties that take place (with alcohol being consumed).

Shockingly, of all the highway fatalities that take place on Halloween, approximately two-thirds of them are alcohol related.

These are certainly sobering numbers and may have you thinking about staying home instead of exposing your children to any harm.

However, by exercising some good common sense, everything will be just fine.

After reviewing the previously mentioned statistics, as well as a number of websites devoted to Halloween safety, I compiled the following list of tips, which I hope that everyone will follow.

Winchester Knives Sets

Most people are cautious and wanted to something to hold or to use just in case. For those who like to go to forests, camping or mountain climbing, it would help if you have your own multi tool knife. Multi tool knives can be used to cut anything just in case you need to cut something.

Multi tool knives are called as such since multiple tools are connected to it such as blades, knives, screw drivers and so many others.

There are probably a number of multi tool knives in the market especially on the internet. They have many different sizes. They also come in many different forms such as multi tool scissors. All in all they come in smaller size so that they easily carried anywhere.

If a blade or a knife is included in a multi tool device, a certain safety system should be included to make sure that it won't cut the user. Most multi tool knives have various locking system to protect the user.

Multi tool knives for ladies have a different set of tools. The tools added are tools used by women such as the ones that are used for nails, eyelashes, hair and more. It also includes the basic tools such as blades and scissors.

The popular pink Swiss army knife and spartan pinstripe are some of the multi tool knives in Amazon and eBay that are for females.

The pink Swiss army knife for example has a number of female tools added on it such as nail cleaners.

Bottle openers are one of the tools included in a spartan pinstripe. Spartan pinstripe looks similar to pink Swiss army knife. They also come in pink color.

Other than for beauty purposes, multi tool knives are for security purposes and self-protection. If in case you are stuck in some place you will need such a product to survive. Multi tool knives are handy for mountain climber, campers, heavy-duty workers and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What is the quality of winchester knives and tools?
If you go into any Wal*Mart or Target, you will find winchester knife sets similar to leathermans that say "stainless steel" on them, and they have all of the functions of a top leatherman, but they're only like in a multi tool set when it's hard to fing a good leatherman for under , maybe at discount price. What is the material they are made with for their tools to be so cheap?

    • ANSWER:
They are a budget knife so expect budget performance. It depends on what you are looking for in a knife. If you want to carry a blade that you might use once in a while a winchester will probably serve you just fine. As with all things, you get what you pay for. I will say that once you take the leap and buy a quality knife, you won't want anything less. There are some Buck options in the range that would be a little better. If you can find a way to spend - try a Kershaw like Stivvt suggested. Other nice options are Spyderco, Benchmade, and Ontario who all offer knives in that price range. USA and Japanese blades are nice options. Norway is not as popular but make some excellent hunting blades.

  2. QUESTION:
Anyone know the Bass Pro Shops policy on buying knives?

Later: I have a set of Winchester knives - Not the same set as the one Pro Bass Shop has for sale, but just for your info, I think the clip-on folder in both sets is the same and it's actually a pretty nice knife.

  3. QUESTION:
how much are collectable winchester knives worth?
i have a a 3 set collectible of a small winchester knife and a bigger one both with signatures on them that have never been open before. Also a small coin with a picture of winchester. How much is it worth and how much money would i get if i sold it?

    • ANSWER:
It is hard to determine a value. It is possible that each knife is worth .

  4. QUESTION:
how to sharpen a Winchester single blade pocket knife?
i am very fond of knies and got a winchester knife set for christmas. the single locking blade knife (my favorate) was slightly duller then the others.i usually sharpen my knives with a metal weel thing that gets them nicely sharp but i wanted my knife realy realy sharp. so i perchased a 2 stage knife sharpener and i think it ruened my knife because i cant even sharpen in on the weel sharpener now. i dont know if i should buy a different sharpener or if the knife is defective....
    please help :'-(

    • ANSWER:
What happened here is that the edge from the factory was at a different angle than your sharpener. I like knives too, have several pocket knives. This was my favorite thing to do at Cub scout an and Boy Scout meetings was the knife lessons.
Your best choices here are either use the two stage sharpener some more with the first stage to hone the edge to the proper angle and then continue to use the sharpener in the future. Or Buy a set of stones and get good at holding an angle. I have an Aluminum oxide combination stone, medium on one side and fine on the other. And an Arkansas stone.
It takes practice but if I can teach 100 cub scouts to do it I am sure you can learn too. Holding a consistant angle is most important. Opinions vary, about 30 degrees , just hold steady.
A dull knife is worthless, a sharp one is the most usefull tool you can have.

here is a start, see how you get on with this lot, try a search of cost of living in 1870 and see what else you can find.

1800's - Cost of living in the 1800's - One bag of flour .80 - Small measure of potatoes daily at .17 per day = .19 - One quarter pound of tea .38 - One quart of milk .56 - One pound of cheap coffee .35 - Three and one half pounds Sugar .05 - One half ration of meats per week .50 - Four pounds of butter .60 - Two pounds of lard .38 - Dried apples for treats .25 - Vegetables .50 - Soap, starch, pepper, salt, vinegar, etc. .00 - 2 bushels of coal .36 - Kerosene .30 - Sundries .28 - Rent .00 week = Total .50

      Wages in the 1800s
The average wage earner only made .00 a week. Some trades only made two, three, four, or six dollars a week. The family above spent .50 more a week than the father made, and had nothing left for entertainment or clothing. The men driving the horse drawn streetcars in New York in the 1880's made .75 a day working 14 to 16 hr. a day.

With Knives And Pens Lyrics

If you are look at the Alex super art table with paper roll and two benches and wondering if kids really need one, well here are a few things to look at. There are several pros and cons to keep in mind when you are considering it. Read on for a few of these.

The Pros Of the art table:

  • It supplies kids with a safe and comfortable aria to do all kinds of crafts in
  • The set is a beautiful piece of furniture that looks very good in any playroom or kids bedroom
  • The paper roll ensures that the paper is always handy and when the kids want to do crafts you do not have to go onto a paper hunt
  • This set also has a chalkboard table top, so the little ones can draw on it with their chalk
  • For me personally, the canvas storing bag is a very big pro as it ensures that everything can be stored safely and it prevents all the crafts equipment from getting lost.
  • The benches on this set are big enough for four kids to work on with ease, it is even big enough so that you, as the parent, can sit next to your child and work together.
  • For me personally, the child-safe paper cutter, 3 cup holders, 3 plastic cups comes in very handy for storing the pens and brushes while the kids are working

The cons of the Alex super art table with paper roll and two benches:

  • There have been some complaints that the paintwork is not completely up to standard. It does not seem to be a very big problem but some users do say the paint stain if the kids draw on it and you do not wash it of soon.
  • If your kid's bedroom is very small and there is no playroom, the unit may be a little big. Remember, it is meant for up to four kids and one cannot expect it to fit into a very tiny room. I cannot completely see that as a con though, as the set is functional and it cannot be a mark against the set of your room is, unfortunately not big enough. The set is not HUGE and it should fit into any average size room.

Well, I think after this list you are pretty sure that the Alex super art table with paper roll and two benches is a very good piece of furniture for your kid's room or playroom.

  5. QUESTION:
Dreams about being let down by your heroes?
Recently I've been having dreams every single night for some reason, but the last three nights my dreams have been more like nightmares.

My first dream was that I met Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance in Morrisons (the super market) but whilst I was bestowing my love to him by giving him like this massive speech about how much i apreciate him and how him and the band saved my life and utterly inspire me he was just walking away and getting his mayonaise off the shelves.

My second dream was that Ronnie Radke came into my music lesson and started alking casually to all the bitches in my class but they thought he was just a teaching assistant. I went over to him and started talking to him saying that I think he's really awesome and how i was really upset when he has to leave Escape The Fate...but he just looked at the bitches and went "What the hells up with this chick? I take it she's not your friend right? Thank goodness."

My third dream was that somehow I ended up dating Andy Sixx from Black Vail Brides but he was reeeeeeeeally NORMAL. We were in my room listening to Headfirst For Halos by My Chemical Romance and he said that he thought Gerard was a fag because he wore makeup. I then pointed out to him that he did too in all his music videos and photos on the internet but he just looked at me as if i was crazy. I then tried to stop the awkwardness by changing the subject and said that his song Knives And Pens is amazing and that i'm stunned by his epic lyrics but he looked at me and said "You think I come up with this stuff?" then he burst out laughing.

    What do these dreams mean?
    They're really getting me down.

  6. QUESTION:
    Black Veil Brides question?
There is this assignment I have to do for my reading class. The assignment is to pick a song(with appropriate lyrics) then you have to explain what the song is talking about and you have to answer a bunch of poetry questions. You also have to answer questions about the band and why you chose this song...etc. My song is Knives and Pens- Black Veil Brides. If I get a grade higher than a B I can play the music video/song. I really want to show the class the music video, to show them what my friends and I go through (so I NEED to get a high grade *Note- this teacher is tough, I'm in advanced reading). I need to know what was Black Veil Brides old band members and what is their new band members? IMPORTANT* Who are the band members in the Knives and Pins music video? (names and what they play, please) Any information about what the song's meaning is?(I already pretty much know that though.) Any extra information or advice would help. If you show where you got your information (sources) that would great too but you don't have to.

Side Note--If you just leave hate comments, you're just a sick person who get satisfied bringing other people down. Honestly, if you do leave comments or answers like that I really don't care. Things like that never get to me.

    Music Video-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEb3GQqdHD4

I love Black Veil Brides(and yeww:P) hehe Thanks, I'll reward the best answer points(or whatever you call it) when I figure out how. ^-^

  7. QUESTION:
What do you think of MY lyrics? =]?
    Hello. =]
I'm in a band called "Louder Than You" and I write all the songs and play the guitar and edit everything... I haven't showed them this song yet cuz I'm not too sure about it. I wrote this after one of my friends and I got in a fight. She said I was talking about her behind her back and telling secrets about her, but I wasn't. It was actually one of her other friends... so... I was so furious that I wrote this in about 20 minutes. I don't know, though. So, let me know what you think?
    thankss.

The song title is "I'm Writing It In Pen So I Can't Erase"

    The story of my life
Can be carved out with the dull side of a knife
My hands must be as cold
    as your heart
Cuz you only wanted to play a small part
Writing this song out in pen
Cuz second chances never come again
I thought I did what I was supposed to do
But not according to the eyes of you
    Sometimes friends just don’t understand
When they’ve got something good in their hand
Must listen to the one you’ve been friends with longer
    Ponder the reasons why
Does she make you feel stronger?
Lying to you about certain events
Kind of out to get you in a sense
Yet you don’t see it. Yeah, you don’t see.
That’s why you had to come after me.
So the story of my life
Can be carved out with the dull side of a knife
Writing this song out in pen
Cuz second chances never come again
Must listen to the one you’ve been friends with longer
    Ponder the reasons why
Does she make you feel stronger?
Hope you know you have a terrible best friend
One day it’ll come to end
And no one will be there to save you
Cuz this is what you do
    Take advantage and then destroy
Like I’m some kind of childish toy
    So go ahead and listen
To the one you’ve been friends with longer

  12. QUESTION:
lets celebrate Patti Smith --- she just keeps going...?
"Horses" lyrics written by Patti Smith
"Land of 1000 Dances" lyrics written by Chris Kenner
"La Mer (De)" lyrics written by Patti Smith

The boy was in the hallway drinking a glass of tea
From the other end of the hallway a rhythm was generating
Another boy was sliding up the hallway
He merged perfectly with the hallway,
He merged perfectly, the mirror in the hallway

The boy looked at Johnny, Johnny wanted to run,
but the movie kept moving as planned
The boy took Johnny, he pushed him against the locker,
He drove it in, he drove it home, he drove it deep in Johnny
The boy disappeared, Johnny fell on his knees,
started crashing his head against the locker,
started crashing his head against the locker,
    started laughing hysterically

When suddenly Johnny gets the feeling he's being surrounded by
    horses, horses, horses, horses
    coming in in all directions
white shining silver studs with their nose in flames,
He saw horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses, horses.
Do you know how to pony like bony maroney
Do you know how to twist, well it goes like this, it goes like this
Baby mash potato, do the alligator, do the alligator
And you twist the twister like your baby sister
I want your baby sister, give me your baby sister, dig your baby sister
Rise up on her knees, do the sweet pea, do the sweet pee pee,
Roll down on her back, got to lose control, got to lose control,
Got to lose control and then you take control,
Then you're rolled down on your back and you like it like that,
Like it like that, like it like that, like it like that,
Then you do the watusi, yeah do the watusi

Life is filled with holes, Johnny's laying there, his sperm coffin
Angel looks down at him and says, “Oh, pretty boy,
Can't you show me nothing but surrender ?”
Johnny gets up, takes off his leather jacket,
Taped to his chest there's the answer,
You got pen knives and jack knives and
    Switchblades preferred, switchblades preferred
Then he cries, then he screams, saying
Life is full of pain, I'm cruisin' through my brain
And I fill my nose with snow and go Rimbaud,
    Go Rimbaud, go Rimbaud,
And go Johnny go, and do the watusi, oh do the watusi

There's a little place, a place called space
It's a pretty little place, it's across the tracks,
Across the tracks and the name of the place is you like it like that,
You like it like that, you like it like that, you like it like that,
And the name of the band is the
    Twistelettes, Twistelettes, Twistelettes, Twistelettes,
    Twistelettes, Twistelettes, Twistelettes, Twistelettes

Baby calm down, better calm down,
In the night, in the eye of the forest
There's a mare black and shining with yellow hair,
I put my fingers through her silken hair and found a stair,
I didn't waste time, I just walked right up and saw that
up there -- there is a sea
up there -- there is a sea
up there -- there is a sea
    the sea's the possibility
There is no land but the land
(up there is just a sea of possibilities)
There is no sea but the sea
(up there is a wall of possibilities)
There is no keeper but the key
(up there there are several walls of possibilities)
Except for one who seizes possibilities, one who seizes possibilities.
    (up there)
I seize the first possibility, is the sea around me
I was standing there with my legs spread like a sailor
(in a sea of possibilities) I felt his hand on my knee
    (on the screen)
And I looked at Johnny and handed him a branch of cold flame
    (in the heart of man)
The waves were coming in like Arabian stallions
    Gradually lapping into sea horses
He picked up the blade and he pressed it against his smooth throat
    (the spoon)
    And let it deep in
    (the veins)
Dip in to the sea, to the sea of possibilities
    It started hardening
Dip in to the sea, to the sea of possibilities
It started hardening in my hand
And I felt the arrows of desire

I put my hand inside his cranium, oh we had such a brainiac-amour
But no more, no more, I gotta move from my mind to the area
(go Rimbaud go Rimbaud go Rimbaud)
And go Johnny go and do the watusi,
Yeah do the watusi, do the watusi ...
Shined open coiled snakes white and shiny twirling and encircling
Our lives are now entwined, we will fall yes we're together twining
Your nerves, your mane of the black shining horse
And my fingers all entwined through the air,
I could feel it, it was the hair going through my fingers,
(I feel it I feel it I feel it I feel it)
The hairs were like wires going through my body
    I I that's how I
    that's how I
    I died
(at that Tower of Babel they knew what they were after)
(they knew what they were after)
[Everything on the current] moved up
I tried to stop it, but it was too warm, too unbelievably smooth,
Like playing in the sea, in the sea of possibility, the possibility
Was a blade, a shiny blade, I hold the key to the sea of possibilities
There's no land but the land

looked at my hands, and there's a red stream
that went streaming through the sands like fingers,
    like arteries, like fingers
(how much fits between the eyes of a horse?)
He lay, pressing it against his throat (your eyes)
He opened his throat (your eyes)
His vocal chords started shooting like (of a horse) mad pituitary glands
The scream he made (and my heart) was so high (my heart) pitched that nobody heard,
    No one heard that cry,
No one heard (Johnny) the butterfly flapping in his throat,
    (His fingers)
Nobody heard, he was on that bed, it was like a sea of jelly,
And so he seized the first
    (his vocal chords shot up)
    (possibility)
    (like mad pituitary glands)
It was a black tube, he felt himself disintegrate
(there is nothing happening at all)
and go inside the black tube, so when he looked out into the steep
saw this sweet young thing (Fender one)
Humping on the parking meter, leaning on the parking meter

    In the sheets
    there was a man
    dancing around
    to the simple
    Rock & roll
    song

i scoarge with rhymes, horrid to the mind
the deaf and the blind step in time, mirrioring the flow
a force marched of scoarched hearts, shivering in snow
a mystic flipping like a poorly thrown discus
i double backtwist and stick it like a gymnist
    simulate this, the constellations divation
from birth i controlled the universe like free masons

my methaphors pour forth and capture dimentions
infections spread faster then the rapture asention
denature conventions, torn shreads of sanity
damaging the fabric of reality untangibly
abstract intilectual manifestation of human thought
backtrack though conventional aperations that sin has wrought

a virtuoso, a progidy with anomolies
i flow on overload blowing over the strong and weak
unfurl with crop circles embeded in stone
carved by alien lasers spit through a microphone
i spew cyclones to drown out the screams of the pitiful
the knife thrown strikes home in the miniscule
ripping through tissue splitting physic vision
and my complex rethoric enters through the insicion
sent on a mission, to ensnare with sick sentences
    extraterrestrial messages in crytpic penmenship
flowing like an explosion of diaphanous cloth
and float past the heavens, a blastphemous moth
ransack like holocaust purging like when the wraiths ran
burning ariable crop into acrid wastelands
face plant in the sacrosanct with blank expressions
abruptly corrupting the world with rank intentions
look fosafan, just because you don't understand half the words doesn't mean that it doesn't make sense

  14. QUESTION:
what song do these lyrics go to?
just know we are a spec in time
So follow your bliss and destroy your beauty.

I'll lock myself alone in a room.
Drink until the clock strikes noon
With just a pen, a pill, and some paper.
And maybe I will write a sad song
    Or another cliche poem
Of the person that I long to be.

I wanna die like Jim Morrison
    A fucking rockstar.
I wanna die like God, on the cover of time.
Just a blink and it's gone.
So baby pour some fame in my glass.

So kill the forest, and destroy your beauty.

I'll lock myself alone in a room.
Drink until the clock strikes noon
With just a pen, a pill, and some paper.
And maybe I will write a sad song
    Or another cliche poem
Of the person that I long to be.

    (Colors blind)
    The eyes.
    (Sounds deafen)
    The ear.
    (Flavors numb)
    The taste.
    (Thoughts weaken)
    The mind.

I'll attack someone with a switchblade knife
So that I can see their pain.
I choose to be a serial killer
'Cause the victims don't get any fame.

I'll lock myself alone in a room
Drink until the clock strikes noon
With just a pen, a pill, and some paper.
And maybe I will write a sad song
    Or another cliche poem
Of the person that I long to be.

    Just know...
(I'll lock myself alone in a room
Drink until the clock strikes noon)
(I wanna die like Jim Morrison
    A fucking rockstar.)
    We are...
(With just a pen, a pill, and some paper)
(I wanna die like God, on the cover of time.)
    A spec...
(And maybe I will write a sad song or another cliche poem -
(Just a blink and it's gone.)
    In time...
    - of the person that I long to be.)
(So baby pour some fame in my glass.)

  16. QUESTION:
What song are these lyrics to?
Its the end of days, the end of nights
Its the end for you, out with the lights
Too hard to see, its outta sight
Too hard to breathe, dont try to fight

Commitin seven sins, Heaven wont let me in,
Satan offered up a contract so I grabbed me a pen.
I signed on the dotted line an sealed it with my blood,
Now I get no love from God or from the angels above.
I crawl from out of the shadows with rage inside of me.
I let the anger flow and murder everything I see.
Theres nowhere to run I can smell your soul,
Nowhere to hide from me, Im the one in control.
I was blessed by the demons to strike fear into hearts.
I can hear their voices screamin as Im rippin you apart.
It gets messy so I wipe my hands on my shirt,
Ive eased you of all yer pain, yer torment, an yer hurt.
Come with me an follow the path Ive chose to live,
I offer you eternal damnation, this is my gift.
Take it in and soon you all will see whats within me.
This is the insanity of a psychopath known as Bludie.

Its the end of days, the end of nights
Its the end for you, out with the lights
Too hard to see, its outta sight
Too hard to breathe, dont try to fight

Its murder when I grab up a mic
Its murder when Im grabbin a knife
Its murder an Im takin ya life
Its gonna be a bloody, bloody mess by the end of tonight

I wreck ya neck with my switch blade salute.
Better check yer set before i pop off an shoot.
Better knock off ya talkin before ya teeth get loose.
Better hide ya neck, cuz bitch I got a noose.
Better stock up ya chalk, ya got homies to trace.
Better grab up a mop, still blood all over the place.
Im like an animal thats been caged, poked with a stick.
Im like a cannibal chewin ya face, man, Im fuckin sick.
I been blessed by a dark being,I been graced with powers.
I get stressed an I start seeing yer face devoured.
Sometimes I try to let the voices not get the best of me.
But they keep mentally molestin me,testin me an questioning,
My beliefs and if Im evil enuff to keep up their blessings.
Man, Im stressing, cuz I wanna quit comittin evil, but
Lifes lessons taught me that I should murder all the people.
So I creep and I crawl makin my way down yer hall,
movin silent like spider, makin no sound at all.
Come up on yer doorway, take me a peek inside.
Tip Toe to yer bed then Im takin yer life.

Its the end of days, the end of nights
Its the end for you, out with the lights
Too hard to see, its outta sight
Too hard to breathe, dont try to fight

Its murder when I grab up a mic

  17. QUESTION:
Are there good lyrics for a song bout a life in the military with a past of crime and being lost?
He's told in the brief, he's going away
He's gotta break the news to the family today
He's so sad he falls asway, gets told come back another day
Feeling and emotions flood his mind
Been so kind for half of his life
Seen man gets shanked by a knife.
Those were days of a dark and gloomy life
Kept his face hidden and makes his mark.
He packs and tracks his next homeaway.
Has his last lager and kebab all alone
Next day he's ready to step
He hold his head to the phone
    and says..... "Goodbye!"

Tears crash and mash the sand,
The plane makes it's final land,
Not sure if he's coming back to see his mum again
Texts and emails but nothing yet
His world twisted and twirled smashed up and curled until nothing revolves,
this pen and paper is all he needs to feed a the hungry fucking greed before he bleeds
That when his voice to disapear and dissolve into a hex of fire before dying before in a lonely destoryed den.

I just wanna put a point across bout what's happening in the street and with some of the soldiers.

  18. QUESTION:
What do you think of these lyrics?
I guess it could also be a poem, but here it is:
As we started out, I wish we could stay forever,
but you and me went our seperate ways,
    feelings change,
    every moment more strange,
the awkward silence wrapped around our conversation.

And I could tell you all the things I was thinking,
    but you wouldn't understand.
And I could tell you I was in love,
but would you still hold my hand?

Untrusting, with my pen in hand,
I wrote a note to my beloved.
I had to let you go,
    although I wanted you so,
but reality had to sink in.
    It was better this way.

No more guilt, or pain from unrecquited love,
for I travel with a knife,
and will go to the above.
    Unless this is your wish,
I will be finished with your last kiss,
and as I bid you goodbye,
you should know how I really felt.

So I'll leave you with this note,
As I travel to a distant place.
Never to know what could have been,
    If I only stayed.
Again, not going to kil myself, don't have these feelings, just venting. PLEASE do not tell me I need help. k thx.

    who won this hip-hop battle?
me and someone had a rap battle over the net, tell us who won and why. best answer goes to the most detailed response. here are the lyrics [random order]:

    person one:

Bitches be made 'cause I spit quality they can't comprehend.
    Shít's going ova your heads.
Just stop talkin' kids, accept me as God.

When I'm finished making jocks twitch I innovate and drop shít
This kid'll make your jaw drop quicker than my cóçk did
I disintegrate a block with the lyrics that'll knock snitch
Out... like little Purple in the middle of a cops ring
Dude, you ƒuçks with this - why? Better fix it and get lost
Your bítch'll suck my díck twice like giving Richard a headjob~
When I rap and spit my verses, I stand and perform it
You getting laughed at cuz you worthless - stand-up performance!

Tell Omeg on an honest tip, you suck and you gotta quit
But my words go 'right over his head' like a comic strip
Your mind must be pre-school, your lines got me wonderin'
Since you ain't understanding my bars.. you must be standing under 'em.
Flip on this? Never, you suck too much díçk to be better
You only 'come across as a dude' when you MIXIN YOUR GENDER!
You can't spit with the sickest contender, my scripts morph into beasts
Torture the beat and slit other members like your díçks in a blender
I rip apart any who enter, and kick it hard as a menhir
You'd have to SUFFA a lot.. 'fore you could spit it with PRESSURE

    person 2:

You can’t compete with this verbal terrorist
But this stupid motherƒuçker just couldn’t resist
So imma murder this cat just because I can
Gonna lynch his àss like I’m the KuKluxKlan

You claim to be the champion of the tortured and sick
But the fortress of my mind won’t let your bullshít stick
You claim to torture me, yet I feel no pain
I scar your skin, leaving disgusting stains
This wack motherƒuçker ‘bout to get crushed
Your pathetic skill only rivalled by your sadistic lust
It’s cute how you fanaticise metal deficiencies
Just like you romanticise your anti-social tendencies
Your only spittin’ on my díçk, I ice your shìt, get back in your cage
Your egotistical shìt can’t save you, nor can your tedious rage
Blood drippin’ from my diary as I grab for my pen
‘Cause I knifed your veins, leaving a leak in my den

Wusthof Knives Set

Kitchen knives vary in price depending on their quality. They can cost anywhere between a few dollars to a few hundred dollars. Knives from well-known manufacturers, though a bit expensive, are definitely worth it. Those from Wusthof Trident, one of the best in the business, fall under this category.

Of the different sets manufactured by them, we think that the ,Wusthof Classic Ikon 8-Piece Knife Block Set, which combines all the best features of the Wusthof knife lines, will make a great set. This Wusthof Classic Ikon cutlery includes several useful knives such as the 3-1/2-inch parer, 4-1/2-inch utility, 6-inch sandwich knife, 8-inch bread knife, and 8-inch chef’s knife.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What is the difference between Wusthof Classic and Gourmet type knives?
My husband wants a Wusthof knife set for Christmas. There are several types of Wusthof knives. The Classic and Gourmet appear to be the best. The Classic is much more expensive however. What is the difference between the two?

    • ANSWER:
It really depends on how much he plans on using them.
Knives are sort of a personal thing. It depends on how they feel in your hand and wrist.
Wusthof is a well known brand but not necessarily the best for your husband.
There are some really excellent knives by companies no one has ever heard of. There are some really decent Chinese knives, too.
If you can find a knife shop, take him to it and have him test out the knives. He may find that Wusthof isn't a good 'fit' for him.
I have a mix of old Chicago Cutlery, a Scandinavian brand and a couple of Henkels.

  2. QUESTION:
I just bought a wusthof 8 piece knife set, i got some knives i have never used, and dont know there purpose.?
so if any one could give me some insight on what they are used for that would be great.

6" sandwich knife, i hope it is not just for slicing sandwiches.
4" utility, i am sure i could figure this out but still
And what do i use a paring knife for, i usually use them for smaller stuff like shallots, what else.Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Sadly, now you know first hand why you should never buy a set. It always has one or more useless or interchangeable knife.
If you can return it then do it. If not well, try to make the best of it.

      As for your questions:

      1) 6" Sandwich knife is sold in many other sets as 6" utility knife. No mater how you call it it is one of the most useless knives in the kitchen. Yes you can find some uses for it, but the point is to have efficient and convenient knives, not just something that can cut. All knives do that.
6" narrow blade of that knife is useless for veggie chopping where Chef's knife is far better, plus it has knuckle clearance which sandwich knife does not.
6" knife is much less convenient for delicate works such as paring/peeling where 3-4" paring knives excel.
So, yes, you're pretty much stuck with cutting sandwiches in half and may be opening plastic packaging. Although, I am sure chef's knife can cut the same sandwich just as good and in case of bigger sandwiches much better than 6".

      2) 4" utility is pretty much the same as your paring knife. 100% interchangeable unless blade geometry is way too weird on it, which I doubt. I have paring knives in both, 3" and 4" version. It's just another way for the maker or dealer to sell you same type of knife.

As for paring knives, you can use them for all small/delicate tasks. Peeling fruits, cutting ends of onions and such. Removing "eyes" on potatoes, destemming strawberries, peeling/cutting avocados and whatever else of that sort.

In most of the households kitchen knives set would be 3-4" paring knife, 6-12" chef's knife, that entirely d3epends on your preferences and a serrated bread knife, which also can be used as a slicer. That covers 99% of cutting needs for average home kitchen. If you work a lot with bony mean then add boning knife to that set and you're done.

wushtof knives are very good kitchen knives..

  4. QUESTION:
What is the top of the range in Wusthof knife block set? Is it Cordon bleu or Culinar or another? Thanks?
I would like to know which is considered the top of their range. Can any one help?

    • ANSWER:
      i love wusthof!!!!!
the classic line is the top in my books, the main difference is the handle not the metal or edge.
the Le cordon bleu line up is specifically made to specification laid down by LE c b.
LCB knives are lighter weight to reduce fatigue, they have no full bolster,to allow full edge sharpening, they have more of a french curve in the blade,so you can "rock" the blade not chop, and they are the sharpest factory edge.
i am thinking of buying a 9" LCB from food network store,it's on sale for 79.99,it's 169.00 in my mall.but i also like the 8" chef knife'wide' that knife is money too!!
they are all good, the classic is the classic for a reason.

  5. QUESTION:
Do we get a set of knives for this?
I've been accepted to Johnson and Wales University, baking and pastry arts program. It says we'll be learning basic knife skills. Do we get/keep the set of knives? Or is it just a class room set? At the other school I applied to, we got a set of Wusthof knives and got to keep them when we graduated so I was curious.

Kasumi Knives: How do Kasumi knives compare to Wusthof, Shun, Global, Mundial, etc. knives?
    Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a pretty decent set of kitchen knives and was originally tossing up between the major brands: Wusthof, Shun, Global, Mundial, etc.

My partner however has recently told me about 'Kasumi' and thinks they are even better. How does Kasumi compare to these other brands in terms of quality, value, etc.?

And any tips on where to buy good knives from in Australia?

    • ANSWER:
I love my Kasumi knives. I don’t even think you need a full set – I’ve got a utility knife and a chef’s knife and they do me fine. Kasumi isn’t cheap buy they’re worth it. The best prices I found were at http://www.doublecream.com.au

I haven’t really tried the other ones you mentioned, although I’ve heard Wusthof knives are pretty good too.

  8. QUESTION:
Looking into buying Wusthof classic ikon set?
Hi, I've been looking into getting a Wusthof set of knives. A friend of mine has the Grand Prix II set and I like it. but I was thinking about just getting the classic or the classic ikon set. I've found great deals online but I was wondering if any of you knew of places to get them cheap. I've found a new set on ebay for around 0.

Also what's the difference between the Grand Prix II, Classic, and the Classic Ikon. They are all forged. Is it just the handles that are different or what?

    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
Yea the only difference is the handles and the name, I have the Grand Prix II set plus others ive bought individually and love it, friend of mine in culinary school had the classic and only thing different was the handle and the price. Just think of them like cars each year they come out with another model of the car, change the seats and jack up the price and call it new, its all marketing to keep selling more sets but the quality of the knife sets are the same.

  9. QUESTION:
!need help choosing a new set of chef knives!?
I want a very sharp hard wearing set
I am a junior chef and i want to upgrade my knives to top of the range and my boss advised me a set of Global knives and they look very good but i was advised by another chef to by a set of wusthof knives but i don't no what would be the best.
And i was hoping someone with experience would be able to help me!
    thank

    • ANSWER:
Wusthof. I have never made a better purchase in my life. I started by purchasing a top-of-the-line chef's knife, since I can do just about anything with it, then slowly started adding other items. Look at their line and decide what's right for you. I buy the classics line, since I don't feel the need for an ergonomic handle. But there are a few options, mostly at the heel and handle of the knife.

Maybe I'm biased, but I wouldn't trade my Wusthofs for anything.

  10. QUESTION:
    Chef Question...About Wusthof Knives..Please help!!?
I'm wanting to get a set of Wusthof Knives for an upcoming chef.
    (1) I need to know the real difference between the Wusthof lines..,like the "Classic" and "Culinar"...and etc. Which is the best? Which one would you get or prefer?
    (2) I know a great chef only buys open stock...but can you buy like a block set and not use the block (I know the block is not good to use)...would it be cheaper to buy a block set and not use the block, or just buy them individually??
    (3) I also found this 8 Pc. Chef's Attache Set, http://www.cutleryandmore.com/details.asp?SKU=6986
Is there a real difference to buy this and not buy them individually?? Which is better??

Please let me know which one you would get...Should I buy that 8 Pc. Set?? Thank you!!!!

Please answer all questions. No rude answers please. Thank you!!!

    • ANSWER:
To a Chef knives are an extension of themselves, their tools, the vehicles to assist them to produce a finished product. Every Chef is different and has personal preferences on which tools they need.
Bottom line, though you have great enthusiasm and wish to present the best, I suggest you don't, instead present a monetary gift certificate from a well known cooking supply company (http://www.chefscatalog.com/brand/wusthof.aspx) and let your Chef decide for them self. (I wouldn't buy a curling iron for a woman or a knife for a Chef).

  11. QUESTION:
Difference between laser cut and stamped knives?
I'm going to buy a set of Wusthof knives and have found that there are laser cut and stamped - I'd just like to know the difference and if I should get one over the other.

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Stamped knives are cut, cookie-cutter style, from sheets of rolled steel. They are not as strong and do not hold an edge as well as laser knives which are carved out of steel using a laser.

      Hence: Laser Sharp

  12. QUESTION:
Are Wusthof or Rada knives better? (cost not a consideration)?
I cook a lot and currently have almost a full set of Rada knives. I really like them. I am getting married in 2 months and while we were registering for gifts I opted not to add any new knives assuming I would continue my Rada collection on my own. Spoke with someone who has been to culinary school and she said Wusthof are the best and that I should get some. Should I? Or are Rada knives just as good or better? THANKS!

    • ANSWER:
It's a matter of preference, you have what you've been using all along, if they are comfortable and you like them there's no need to change now. Myself, I'm a Wustof man

  13. QUESTION:
What is a slicer knife used for, i just ordered the wusthof grand prix 2 8 piece set and this knife?
    is included,It is 6in.

    • ANSWER:
Slicer knife is used to cleanly slice peaces of meat and other soft food, often large. Because of that 6in long slicer sounds more like a joke.
The idea of the slicer knife is to cut the piece in one (or two at most) slicing motion in order to have a cleanly cut surface on the slice.
Obviously with 6 incher you can't do that and you'll get jagged cuts.
I've looked that set up and it's more like utility knife than a slicer.
Here's what real slicer should look like - http://zknives.com/knives/kitchen/ktknv/watanabe/watanabesj300.shtml
      http://zknives.com/knives/kitchen/ktknv/watanabe/watanabesjka300.shtml

As for the utility knives, they're one of the the most useless kitchen knives. Too short and no knuckle clearance, to be useful for veggie chopping like chaf's knives or vegetable cleavers or nakiris.
Too long to be as good as paring knives for peeling/paring.

Slicers don't work well as serrated bread knives, but vice-versa works better.
Carving knives are yet another type.

  14. QUESTION:
    wusthof knives collections
My husband has been talking about them since we have been together and wants a set. He really enjoys cooking and is pretty good at it. I know they have different collections like emerilware, ikon, and gourmet What is the gourmet set like? it is the cheapest i found. Do they even make a bad set of knives? and is the gourmet set good for use at home?

    • ANSWER:
Wusthof makes several different lines of cutlery, and it really depends on how much you be using them AND how they feel in your husband's hands.
      The Gourmet line:
Stamped blades are tempered and hardened steel with a long-lasting, V-ground edge. Full tang adds weight and balance. Synthetic handles are triple-riveted. High-carbon, no-stain blades are easy to sharpen.
      •Tempered and hardened steel
      •Long-lasting, V-ground edge
      •Full tang
      •Triple riveted synthetic handles
      •High-carbon, no-stain blades
      •Easy to sharpen
      •Hand wash
      •Made in Germany
      The Black Classic line:
Forged blades are tempered and hardened steel with a long-lasting, V-ground edge. Full tang adds weight and balance. High-carbon, no-stain blades are easy to sharpen.

•Forged of tempered and hardened steel
      •Long-lasting, V-ground edge
      •Full tang
      •High-impact, triple riveted synthetic handles
      •High-carbon, no-stain blades
      •Easy to sharpen
      •Hand wash
      •Made in Germany
      The Ikon line:
The Ikon series builds on the Wüsthof ® fine cutlery tradition with new thinner blades, refined ergonomic handles, and recessed bolsters that allow full sharpening to the heel. All-purpose chef's knives include traditional blades and scalloped Japanese blades that glide through foods.
      •Forged steel
      •Triple-riveted polypropylene handles
      •Hand wash
      •Made in Germany

I have the Wusthof Black Classic line, some of my knives are over 9 years old. They are an investment, but worth every penny. Try to shop Wusthof when it goes on sale, you don't need a "set" to start. 3 good knives to start with would be a chef's knife or santoku, a paring knife, and a tomato/veggie knife. You can add more later on- if you're on a budget. Crate & Barrel usually has them on sale in the fall, even Williams Sonoma has them on sale at times.

What knife set should I put on my registry?
I really want to invest in a good set of knives on my wedding registry, but I'm not sure which ones. I think I like wusthof and henckles. Are there any better brands out there? Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
I have a Henckle professional series knife set. It cost us over 0. I LOVE them. I cook from scratch about 5 or more times a week and use the knifes constantly. We've had them for 8 years and they are amazing.

  18. QUESTION:
how often should i hone my knife, i just bought a wusthof grand prix ll set and have barely used it?
i have heard once a week and also once a month,What should i do

    • ANSWER:
Just clarify thew terminology, because often people use terms interchangeably.
Honing is sharpening, i.e. removing the metal to sharpen the edge.
Stropping (or steeling) is aligning deformed the edge.

Now, sharpening has to be done as needed. Check your knife edge, it if feels dull, do it. The duller the edge gets, the faster it dulls further and the more metal you have to remove to restore the sharp edge.
There are no rules, except the "don't let your knives get dull". Depending on cutting medium, frequency of cutting and your knife quality you might need to sharpen daily, weekly or once a month.
Pro chefs in top Japanese restaurants are happy with the knife if it can go through one shift (8 hours or so) without sharpening. Western knives are softer, (hardness for western knives is 56-58HRC vs 62-67HRC for Japanese), so sharpening is more frequent.

Steeling is very important, and can save your edge and extend its "sharp lifetime" considerably, therefore knife lifespan. It's a simple procedure of straightening the deformations on the edge. Here's a photo of stropping in action -
      http://zknives.com/knives/knimgtmpl.shtml?/images/knives/macro/sestudy/wtnbnkstrop100x01.jpg

In short, ideally you steel or strop the blade every time before using it. That's the best. More important point is to strop before using it, not after. Metal has so called "relaxation effect" and aligned edge tends to return to its deformed state over time, even if not used. Which is why you need to strop or steel before using the knife.

The only thing is, forget that grooved butchers steel that pretty much every mainstream knife maker sells. It is too rough and instead of realigning the deformed edge rips chunks of deformed metal from the edge. More damage than good.
Either get the smooth steel,or glass rod or very fine ceramic rod. Alternatively use plain leather strop if your conditions permit. I assume at home that's pretty easy.

  19. QUESTION:
What are the best Kitchen Knives?
For Christmas I'm planning on buying my mother a new kitchen knife set. My budget is 0. I have Kitchen Aid knives and they're ok, but I don't like them enough to get the same ones for her. I've been doing a little research, but I'm not sure which are the best quality.

I want a set of at least 10 with a block. I'm looking at Cuisinart, J.A. Henkel, Wusthof, and Ginsu. Which are the best? I'm open to other suggestions too. Please include links to any sets you find.
    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
The Henkel, and Wusthof are about as good as they get, and it's a toss up between the two.
Be aware tough, that both have different grades of knifes, and the premium is no doubt the best.
I have used both with very good results, but again, do not get the cheap grade in either brand.
To sharpen us a medium to fine grit diamond stone with water to lube with.
For really good service, forget the Ginsu, and ignore the TV commercials, same goes for Cuisinart, although it's better than Ginsu, it does not compare to the top brands mentioned.
You will not get a whole set for 0.00 of the best knives, as I paid that much for one knife.
For about 0.00 you can find about three medium priced Henkels which will be better than a whole set of cheaper knifes.

  20. QUESTION:
    Wusthof Or Chicago Cutlery?
I've recently discovered the joy of cooking however my current knife set is less than exemplary. My question is at 22 years old would it be worth it for me to save up and get a set of Wusthof or should I get some Chicago Cutlery to make do until I'm a little more well off? Perhaps suplement a set of Chicago with a Wusthof Chef's knife as thats what I use most often.

    • ANSWER:
Wusthofs will last you longer than Chicago Cutlery, and they are much better in the long run.

Additionally, do NOT put your knives in a wooden knife holder (the box like one with the slits) -- they harbor bacteria. Get a magnetic holder for your knives.

  21. QUESTION:
what is the best brand of kitchen knives?
i just started culinary school and eventually need to get a set of knives. what are my best options? i know about hinkel and wusthof but what else is out there? these are pretty pricey. i was shocked when i saw that a single 8 inch chefs knife costs 0. buying a basic set would cost me 0-0 and that's ridiculous imo.

    • ANSWER:
Considering that you mentioned Culinary school, I am assuming you need those knives for the school and my answer is based on that.

I have not ever been to the school, but I know quite a few people who went to different culinary schools and their consensus is that it is not a good idea to bring good knives to the school. Unless you keep all your knives with you all the time or locked up somehow they will get "lost". Sad but true. Besides, it's not really good to purchase expensive knives while you are still learning.

Given all that, I'd recommend Victorinox Forschner knives. Made out of X50CrMoV15 steel, same one as in mid/high range Henckels and Wusthofs, just cheaper. Exact composition and overview of the most popular kitchen knife steels here - http://www.zknives.com/knives/kitchen/misc/articles/kkchoser/kksteelp2.shtml

Few more tips to keep in mind while shopping for your knives:

Ignore the most common knife myths and marketing BS.

Forged vs. stamped - As knife marketing tells us good kitchen knives have to be forged, and have full bolster and tang. NONE of that is true. E.g. Stamped Globals are much better performers than most of the forged mainstream kitchen knives. Stamped Forschners are made from the same steels as Wusthoffs and Henckels and I'll bet 1000$ to anyone they won't be able to tell the difference neither in edge holding nor in cutting performance.
I bought Forged and stamped versions of the same chef's knife from Global, and I didn't get anything but extra weight and spent more money on forged knife.

Full tang - Another BS, Katana swords and bowie knives are not full tang, yet they can cut through armor and leather, so I really doubt you need more strength than that in the kitchen.

Bolsters make sense only on narrow boning knives to protect your hand from slippage, but on other wider knives blade choil area does the job, bolster just makes sharpening a nightmare.

Avoid both, Cutco and Furi knives. Both are real junk metal knives, except one is really outrageously priced - Cutco. Both have rusting issues, can't hold the edge worth a dime and both have very misleading marketing. I've had Furi cleaver for sharpening/review and it was absolute junk.

Obviously, any knife that "never needs sharpening" is a shameless scam. There's quite a few of those out there too.

Another good way to spot junk knives is the use of generic terms instead of specific steel, e.g. "stainless steel", surgical stainless, hardened superior stainless etc...

As for the pricing, well good knives cost money and really good stuff is well over 100. Still, there are very good budget performers. The same victorinox Forschner, Tojiro DP line, they are solid performers and dont' cost you arm and a leg.

  22. QUESTION:
Good quality chef knives, any suggestions?
I need to buy a set of knives, as im currently an apprentice and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of good brands, i have heard Wusthof are a good brand though highly expensive, i have been considering global, sabatier and furi. Has anyone had any experience with these knives, i'd like some knives which aren't too expensive or too heavy, but arent as cheap as brands like victornox. Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Global, Sabatier, and Furi are all more expensive than Wusthof. I've used mostly Wusthof and Henkels, and both are very good-quality knives. However, when I was a restaurant cook, we had a knife service that brought in much cheaper knives like Forschner and Victorinox, and they cut just as well as the expensive ones.

Choose a brand that uses high-carbon stainless steel--regular stainless is almost impossible to sharpen and plain carbon steel needs extra care to avoid rust and discoloration. And beware the ceramic blades; they are alluring; they cut beautifully. But they are also very expensive, and if you drop one on the concrete restaurant floor, that is the end of the knife. It will shatter.

Other than that, the best way to choose a knife is to pick it up and see if it's comfortable in your hand. Do a couple of cutting motions with it. Is it too heavy or too light? Too long or too short? Well-balanced or pushing too far towards the tip or towards the heel? Whatever feels best is the right one.

Also, be aware that many brands have different-priced lines. The more expensive ones are usually forged (they have a thick metal bolster between the blade and the handle). The less expensive ones are stamped (they look like a flat piece of metal out of which the shape of the blade was cut). Forged blades are good for heavy jobs like cutting through bones or winter squash. But other than those heavy jobs, a stamped blade will cut vegetables or meat or herbs just as well as a forged blade.

Don't spend more money than you have. Get the cheap ones now and you can add to your collection as you make more money--and as you are more sure of which are worth spending more on and which don't matter as much. And I guarantee, if you stay in the food business, you will become fascinated with knives and start saving up to buy certain ones.

  23. QUESTION:
I am considering the purchase of Wusthof Cutlery. What are the differences between Grand Prix I and II?
    (1) I an seriously considering the purchase of Wusthof Cutlery based on some prior recommendations. I plan to use the cutlery for home cooking, slicing spaghetti squash, etc. I have my eye on a 7 - 9 piece set with a wooden block, at an attractive price. How do I choose between the "Classic", "Grand Prix I", or the "Grand Prix II"?

Thank you very much inadvance for your help! Interestingly, my brother-in-law is an exellent chef, and I found out today that
the knife set that he purchased for a relative's wedding gift was a Wusthof set!

    (2) Finally, are there any good "online" sources to utilize for reviews of cutlery sets, or varieties among different brands, as in the question posed above?

    • ANSWER:
We bought the Grand Prix I a few years ago and have supplemented with the II when we just got married (for gifts). The only difference I have noticed is the handle design. It is not noticeable. We have them right next to each other on a magnetic strip on the wall and it doesn;t make a difference. As far as I can tell and by the descriptions, it is the same construction and everything. Cooking.com usually has some decent sales on Wusthof and you can link to them thru credit card bonus point centers and such.

  24. QUESTION:
Quality kitchen knives and a decent price?
I've been looking around on the web with little to no luck. I am getting into culinary arts and am looking for a good set of kitchen knives at a price that won't completely kill my budget. I am either looking for Henkel, Wusthof, or any other brand of similar quality.

If anyone could post a link or give me a heads up, I'd be greatful.

    • ANSWER:
Here's a set of Henckels knives that got pretty good reviews and doesn't look like a bank breaker. If this isn't what you are looking for, Amazon has a lot of other styles. Hope this helps.

  25. QUESTION:
what's a good knife set to take to culinary school? cheap.?
I have a set of cutco at my house. i think they suck. i've looked up wusthof and henkel. they seem expensive.

    • ANSWER:
I would invest in some good knives if you are going to culinary School. Wusthof, Henkel, Shun and Global are all nice.

  26. QUESTION:
My brother is getting married and I really want to get them some good knives, but what would be best?
For my brothers wedding gift I really want to get some good knives. From my research Ive seen that Wusthof makes the best, but they are quite expensive (about 100-150 each). My dilemma is whether to get a basic set of some Henckel knives (which are supposed to be next best) for about 0 or to get one or two really good Wusthof. Please Help!!!

    • ANSWER:
Totally agree with the person who said Cutco!! I've used them and they cut through ANYTHING!! I would go with those!

  27. QUESTION:
Which is better Wusthof Gourmet or Henckel's Signature Line?
Love to cook and spend oodles of time in the kitchen but know very little about (manufacture/quality of) knives.
Any recommendations? I am looking for a comprehensive block set.

    • ANSWER:
I love henckel! They have a lifetime gaurentee. I broke one of mine once, so I sent it back and they replaced it!

  28. QUESTION:
looking for a good knife set?
so I'm starting college soon and i need to get an 8 piece knife set. iv looked at the schools knives that they sell and I'm not very impressed. so I'm just wondering if anybody knows any good brands of knives that aren't too expensive. my budget is very flexible so expenses shouldn't be to much of a worry, but nothing ridiculous. iv looked at the two major Companies (Wusthof, and J A Henckle) but I'm just looking for some other options. and I'm not looking for some of those beater heavy knifes either, I'm looking for something a bit lighter and more refined.

    Thanks
    Morgwn

    • ANSWER:
you do not need a knife set. buy from victorinox swiss company an 8" chefs knife, a bread knife and a paring knife. other than those, you will not usem any of the kinves.

here is a great article about what you should have for college. and looking back it is exactly what I would have wanted back in college.

sets for pots/pans and knives are totally useless.

  29. QUESTION:
If you were to choose a single keeper kitchen knife set below 0, what would it be?
I am thinking along the lines of Wusthof vs Forschner vs Henckels vs Anolon. Any particular product line you recommend (or not)? Talking about a block set rather than a single knife, I was surprised how few professional knife set reviews there were on the web. On the other hand, no one suggests a good way to keep your knives sharp and at hand without a block holder. Besides, we often cook as a family, so we certainly need more than a few knives. Forschner is recommended by Cook's Illustrated, and I wish they had larger sets. Putting a set together from open stock looks like a more expensive option. Is it?..

    • ANSWER:
I do not have a set of knives from a single manufacturer. I purchased a number of individual knives (about 12 really good ones) and yes it was much more expensive. However in addition to the 8” standard blades I have 10” and 12” chef’s knives, a 12” slicer and a Japanese Santoku as well as several others that can not be bought as part of a set. I acquired them over the years not all at once so I didn’t feel the (0 total?) pain. If you are going to buy a set and want to keep the cost to under 0 I’d recommend one of the sets below. I have some knives from each of these makers and they are very good.

      1. 9 piece set of Wusthof high carbon stainless steel knives with forged, not stamped blades, 9.99 at Amazon )
      2. 8 Piece Cutlery Oak Block Set Stainless Steel w/Forged Black POM Handles R.H. Forschner by Victorinox (also with forged blades), 9.99 with no S&H at AllHeartChefs.com http://www.ikitchen2000.com/prod/db/prod.php?prodNo=H0235671000 (Don’t buy the set from Amazon they are stamped)
Both of these sets are made up of professional level knives and should last at least one lifetime, you can probably leave them to your grandchildren ;-) . The Wusthof knives may be a little tougher but the Forschner blades may be a little better balanced and seem to handle a bit easier. But the differences between the Forschner and Wusthof sets are so small that it’s really a toss up. Both sets have kitchen shears and a 10” steel. BTW you can’t sharpen a blade with a steel, it corrects the shape of the edge not sharpens it. The Wusthof set comes with a larger knife block (17 slots, six of which are for steak knives) so you have room to add blades later.
Which set is better? (Shrugs his shoulders) I really can’t say and I’d be happy with either. So you should go to a high end kitchen retailer and look at them, see how they feel to you etc and then buy on line.
How to keep them sharp is always an issue! You could learn to use a hone, sharpening stone etc. but that’s a high level skill and you’ll ruin your good knives learning it! There are several manual sharpeners that will do the job for a while but eventually you’ll have to get a pro to refinish the edge. IMHO it’s cheaper and easier to buy a good electric sharpener and do the sharpening when and as you need it. I believe that Chef’sChoice makes the best sharpeners. I have the Chef’sChoice 110 sharpener, it’s an older model but it does a great job after you learn how to use it. The newer version is the Chef’sChoice 130 sharpener. It costs more than the 110 but the blade guides are magnetic and definitely work better so there’s no learning curve. You get a perfect edge the first time you use it. Lots of dollars (ask for it at Christmas?).
Good luck with the search and Happy slicing!

  30. QUESTION:
Buying kitchen knives and I'm clueless?
So I'm buying knives for a christmas present and I don't know where to start. I went to the mall today and grabbed some 40 dollar wusthof knife just to check it out. So yeah...it seems sharp idk. So here are the specific questions:
Oh and before I start I'm probably going to buy whatever set I get at the mall which limits me to shun, wusthof, and J.A. Henckels.
    1. does it matter for a lefty?
    2. will the harder steel of a shun mean less maintenance/sharpening?
    3. What knives of the 4 billion to choose from should I get if I'm thinking of just getting maybe four or so to start?

I was atm leaning towards the wusthof classic: a pairing knife, a santoku or something (it just looked cool), some serrated bread knife, and a cook's knife. Let me know your thoughts. The person I'm buying them for doesn't know anything about knives either- so maintenance and comfort win out since many of the strengths of each choice will probably just go undetected.

    • ANSWER:
Henckels probably have the widest reputation.
      1) Ask if they come in left-handed, idk.
      2) The quality of steel will determine price.
      3) Small paring knife, boning knife, serrated bread knife, large chopper.

  31. QUESTION:
what do you believe is the best brand of knives?
i have an 8 inch wusthof carver that i loved to death and i'm am thinking on getting a complete set.

    • ANSWER:
      Definitely Wusthof!!!!!
And their sharpeners are GREAT too.

  32. QUESTION:
    Kitchen Knives?
What is the best/several brands of the best kitchen knives, in terms of sharpness and long life? What do professional chefs use? I'm thinking of spending the money and buying a really good chef's knife, or a set of knives. I'm leaning towards Wusthof, anything better?
By the way, i work in the food service industry and use knives everyday at work, but I am now looking for knives for home, personal use. I have consulted the chef at work, but I am just asking on here to get more opinions, thanks.
Thanks for the answers so far, but I should add, I use knives everyday at work, have very good knife skills, I know that a knife should feel comfortable in your hand. I guess I'm asking what is the best brand in terms of longevity and sharpness. I know a good grade steel will last a very long time if properly and regularly sharpened.
Also, I am looking for a chef's knife of at least 10 inches, maybe even a 12 inch. 8 inches is just too small.

    • ANSWER:
Wusthof are especially good knives, but I think Global are the best. Try this link which should help you find exactly what you are looking for:

  33. QUESTION:
Best Brand Knife Wusthhof Forshner Henkels?
I am looking for some new knives (chefs, santoku & bread) and was wondering if brands like Wusthof and Forshner are really that much better than brands like JA Henckels. I am not very good at sharpening knives so I would like a set that stays sharp. Should I spend the money and get some Wusthofs or is there another brand that is high quality and costs less. What brand knife do you recommend and why do you prefer it over others?

    • ANSWER:
I would buy Henkel or Wusthhof...they stay sharp longer. Forshner is a commercial grade of knives..not bad, but not the same quality as the other two. You will need to learn to sharpen whatever knives you purchase because of the investment involved.

  34. QUESTION:
Who has the best kitchen knife sets for under 0?
My mother wants a new knife block and knives for Christmas, and I have heard two opinions:
    1. Don't buy inexpensive knives. Spend top dollar for quality German knives that will last.
    2. Don't spend good money on overpriced German knives. Get a nice set of chinese made henckels or OXO or something.
Ha! So, I need advice. I could afford the cheapest German Henckels set that only has 7 knives, or a full set of 15 or so Cuisinart, OXO, henckels International, etc.
Which option is best, and then which maker is best? I have also heard of Wusthof, Chicago Cuttlery, etc.
I have no idea where to begin!

    • ANSWER:
You'll probably get a lot of answers to your question, but I can absolutely recommend the Ronco Showtime 6 Star+ Cutlery Set with Wooden Block. I bought one for my family () over the summer since our knives were all dull or missing. After they arrived, my wife liked them so much that we got a set for my Mom for her birthday! We also go the "Ronco Rocker" knife and 4 extra steak knives. Including the wooden block and shipping, I think we paid . Totally worth it! My Mom loves the knives and neither one of us has had any problems with them for cutting, in the dishwasher, or their appearance.

  35. QUESTION:
    kitchen knife problems?
what is a better knife set 8 piece global or 7 piece classic ikon wusthof or is there a better set for under 500 dollars

    • ANSWER:
I would suggest not to buy a set. in 99.99% of the cases you will end up with more than one knife that you'd never use. Or knives with very similar designation. Either way, you're paying for something you don't need.

As for those two brands. Generally Japanese knives are much harder than their western counterparts, which results in much better edge holding, but increased brittleness, especially under abusive use.
Globals are rather an exception from that rule. Globals are 58HRC, Wusthofs are 56-58HRC or 54-56 HRC, depending on the mode line.
Either way not a significant difference.
Globals are thinner though, and considerably lighter.
Steel used in them CROMOVA 18 is slightly better than Wusthofs X50CrMoV15. But I doubt it'd really show unless you were grinding very thin edges, which itself isn't very feasible with softer steels used in both knives.
More on kitchen knife steels here - http://zknives.com/knives/kitchen/misc/articles/kkchoser/kksteelp2.shtml
So, in the end 2 major deciding factors:
      1) Globals are lighter, to me that's an advantage, as the sharp edge is supposed to cut as opposed to popular knife myth "heavy knife will cut for you". Elementary physics will show that knife weight is rather insignificant given sufficiently sharp edge. Only if you really chop the weight comes into play, but you shouldn't do that with kitchen knife anyway.

      2) Globals are thinner blades, with thinner edges. ~30deg. on Globals vs. ~40deg on Wusthofs. Makes significant difference for cutting. Forsofter materials Globals will work a lot better. However, wester knife users tend to use kitchen knives for bunch of stuff that isn't really suited for those knives, e.g. whacking lobsters with the chef's knife. For that reason western manufacturers tend to use softer steel and thicker edges. So, you have to decide what type of knife user are you to pick the correct knife ;)

And finally the design. Wusthofs are more or less traditional western design. Globals are westernized Japanese knives, with distinct style.
      Whichever you like the best.

And i was hoping someone with experience would be able to help me!
    thank

    • ANSWER:
Well as a former chef, I would recommend to you Darryl is to look at both and Henckels, it has to be the right set for you, the other chefs you talked to have made there decision on how they work with them and the feel they have for there knives.

I would recommend going to a knife supply store, check out both and the others you see, get the feel for them see how you like the grip, weight and overall feel for those particular knives. I have 40 various knives, from a number of different company's, I bought mine for the reasons I gave.

Just make sure there the right ones for you as they will be your life long tools, make an educated decision and a valued purchase.

  37. QUESTION:
Reputable shop to have high-quality knives sharpened in London?
I have a set of high-quality Wusthof kitchen knives (many different types) that all need sharpening. Can someone recommend a reputable shop where I can take them to be sharpened?
I have a steel at home, but want to take them to a professional for a tune up. Not interested in any home sharpeners.

    • ANSWER:
      Why not do it yourself.

Get a quality 'steel' and put the edge back on them. It only take a few seconds each IF you get the angle right!!

That way you can ALWAYS have super sharp blades in the kitchen. Makes cooking MUCH more enjoyable to use good tools.

    Thanks!
Haley & Joseph: Thanks for the creative idea on where to look for knives. I hadn't thought of checking out either of those places, but I definitely will now!
Liwi & Sweets: Thank you for the first hand knowledge! It is always nice to hear from someone with experience.
Blewe, Ranebo, & Dez: Thanks for the info and the links! It really helps to be able to see where other people might search for knives.
C.M.C: Thanks for the additional info on the Kitchen Aid knives. I'm glad that someone has used them and likes them. Mine are fairly new and they were pretty pricey... My mother tried them and didn't like them, so I don't think I'll be going with those.
Allen: Thanks for introducing the Chicago knives... I had seen them while shopping around, but have never hear of them or known anyone who had. I'll look into them more before making my decision.

    • ANSWER:
Henckels, without a doubt. you will have them forever. One of mine broke after my overzealous brother was cooking dinner for me one night. I sent it back to them and they sent me a brand new one. was awesome! and this knife was old -- I had it for many years.

I am sure you agree that if you could dodge a conflict all together that this would be you best option. Well thats what leaning observation skills for ladies self defense will do for you.

Learn to Project Confidence.

Learning about ladies self defense is something that can help you project confidence in a situation. Even if you don't know a lot of self defense tactics, the idea is that the more confident you appear, the less of a target you will be. This does not guarantee that you won't be attacked. You may need to use those ladies self defense moves anyway. But it can help detract certain assailants before they approach you.

Scan Your Environment.

One of the most important things you need to learn how to do when it comes to ladies self defense is scan your environment to look for potential threats. One thing you can do is make sure you can always see the entrances. Look for anybody who looks shady or for people who may be approaching you in an aggressive way. Sometimes those few seconds can give you an edge in a potential situation.

Beware of Isolated Places.

One thing to remember when considering ladies self defense is to always avoid isolated places. If you can't avoid it and need to go to a place like a parking garage, try not to go by yourself. Assaults often happen in secluded areas such as in parking garages or in allies.

Learn to Trust Your Instincts.

Most people have natural instincts that can help keep them out of danger. However, most people have blocked this instinct out, or they simply don't know how to use it. However, if you want to learn ladies self defense, this can be a good ally. Learn to pay attention to your instinct. There might be a reason why the person in the corner of the room gives you the creeps. Don't take any chances.

Where are the Exits?

Observing your environment for ladies self defense includes always knowing where the exits are and being near them. For example, if you need to ride the bus alone at night, sit by the exit that is near the driver. The idea is that if you need to leave quickly to get away from someone, the exit will be accessible.

Being aware of your environment is an important element of ladies self defense. This can give you a much needed edge if you are ever in a situation where you need to defend yourself. Or if you do need to use ladies self defense techniques, you'll have plenty of time.

Wholesale knives and pocket knives from a wholesale knife distributor won't cut into your profit like knives and pocket knives purchased at retail prices will. If you are buying your pocket knives from a retailer because you can't afford the minimum purchasing requirements of the popular wholesale knife distributors, find a wholesale knife distributor that dropships and you'll find a wholesale knife distributor that won't cut so deep into your profits.

Wholesale knife distributors are competitive selling their wholesale knives and wholesale pocket knives just like any other business. The wholesale knife distributors that sell wholesale knives and pocket knives to large hunting, camping and other outdoor retail stores and retail chains cater only to the big guys. That's their competitive niche. Other wholesale knife distributors are well aware of this and they need their niche just like everyone else. A wholesale knife distributor that dropships will sell wholesale knives and pocket knives in small quantities, and will even offer direct shipping from the wholesale distributors location to your customer's deliverable address.

If you've been buying knives and pocket knives at retail prices because you can't find a wholesale knife distributor that serves the small retail store owner or the online business venture, try a wholesale knife distributor that dropships for small businesses and ecommerce retail outlets. Wholesale knife distributors that serve the small business carry as many types of wholesale knives and pocket knives as the wholesalers that serve the national chain stores. Wholesale knife distributors that dropship are aware that small business owners have financial and logistical needs and limitations that are unique to their business format.

Dropshipping wholesale knife distributors want to serve the online retail store and small local businesses. Their wholesale knife businesses carry a variety of camping, hunting, fishing and military pocket knives, swiss army knives, pocket knives with tools, pocket knives for collectors, and some may even carry the rugged Bowie knife. Your product line for wholesale knives and pocket knives certainly won't suffer by doing business with a wholesale knife distributor that dropships. These knives are made available for sale at wholesale prices to the small business owner without mandatory high quantity purchase requirements.

The business model for wholesale dropshipping for wholesale knives is quite simple. The online knife store or the specialty knife retail outlet markets the wholesale knives as their inventory, then takes orders for wholesale knives from customers, selling them at retail prices. The pocket knife ecommerce store or retail store will accept payment, record and promise delivery. The owner of the knife store then contacts the dropshipping wholesale knife distributor and places and pays for the orders just received from the customers with the money already received by the customers. There is typically a small charge added on to each dropship order, but it is within the realistic financial realms of the small business owner and easily worked into the retail price. The wholesale knife distributor then packs and delivers the wholesale knives and pocket knives to each customer with your company name.

Wholesale knives and pocket knives can be a very profitable niche for the small business owner, as long as they are purchasing their wholesale knives from a wholesale knife distributor that understands the small business owner's unique needs. Don't let high quantities of wholesale knives and retail prices cut into your profits. Do business with a wholesale knife distributor that dropships and understands your business needs, then you'll be able to put the profits back into your pockets.

They seem a little too expensive you would only make pocket change although you are the middleman since a lot of them dropship. 6. QUESTION:
My parents hate my idea of work ?
I need some answers PLEASE ! SORRY for it being so long .

My parents always told me how when they grew up, they couldn't have the choice, or if they did THEIR parents wudnt let them go out to parties and stuff, OR tthey made the wrong decisions ( as in what they want to study )

Im in Grade 8 now, 14 years olf, they tell me they don't want to force me to choose what Univirsity I go to . I get alright grades in school. Its not like im one of the dumb people that get like 60's, but Im not one of the people that get 95's on EVERYTHING. I get a very rare in the 60's, most the time either the 70's or 80's . Here where I am, 80 is an A- .

Anyways, I LOVE BUSINESS. Even now im selling stuff on kijiji, going to garage sales getting items cheap, then trying to sell them for more. I recently had my own business of Custom spray painted xbox 360 controllers, which went pretty well ! Now I have about 500 $ i want to invest on a smaller wholesale or something. I told my parents and stuff, and there like yeayea, sure what ever .

I play video games alot, and all my dad tells me is " Use your brain . Go do some math problems, from video games your not gunna get anything either . What, you think you can sell stuff? Theres a bunch of other people who are probably going to sell it for less so you won't make any money. "

blablabla. he tells me do to math questions and stuff, or my brain will " Rust ", and won't be prepared for Highschool .

Il admit, i dont do much of my homework, but I DO DO WHAT IS NECESARY. Our math teacher gives us math homework, i usually never do it, cuz i already know it. ( and she dosnt check to see if we did it ). if I DONT know it, il do the first question or 2 to clear things up, and then I understand the rest.

But if its an english assigment, or Science or something, I ALWAYS do it. I do it last night, so my parents always think im just sitting around playing games . And in school my binder is all screwed up, giving teachers bad impressions, but really im getting some good grades.

So my point it, everytime at dinner when my dad pulls it up and mentions stuff about business or something, and how I need to focus on SCHOOL right now, and BUSINESS later, just fking makes me feel bad inside . I know no matter what he says , or does , i will still NOW , while im 14 , up to 18, will always be looking for business opportunities .

He even tells me ( cuz my mom bought me a pocket knife a while ago, that I NEVER brought with me or used ) , he's like " you still carry around taht pocket knife ? " im like " no ' , and he says " yeah you just gotta start using your brain. dont be stupid "

like WTF ?!?!?! Then he says " I know you think your the smartest now, and know everything, but trust me " .
I don't think im the smartest . He just thinks im doing really bad in school cuz he never sees me do my work, and sees my playng video games .

There was ONE math test, I told him I didnt have time to finish it, ( cuz il admit, I didnt study even a bit or do my homework for that test ) , and now he uses that against me everytime .

So yeah.. every time I mention busines, or ask my mom for some ideas, she like just dosnt care. Tries to think of something, then dosnt do sh1t .

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like you're smart enough to get by in middle school without much effort. That works in middle school, but every grade after this is going to get harder and harder. The time to develop good study habits is NOW. What you do this year will determine your placement into high school classes. Which classes you take and how you do in them will determine your chances of getting into a good college and getting money to pay for it.

Consider this: there are lots of ways to be successful in business, but one thing every successful business person has in common is that they DO THEIR HOMEWORK. Whether that means marketing research or learning new information systems or checking out prospective employees, you will not succeed in business if you take short cuts. Being good in business also means listening to other people and figuring out how to fit into a particular environment. It's incredibly competitive. If you're operating at 80% when others are at 95%, you will be left WAY behind.

What I'm suggesting is that the habits you develop now are exactly the ones you need later in life. Your parents are right. You need to start using your brain as much as possible.

  7. QUESTION:
    Gift Ideas For Bridesmaids?
My wedding is 11 days away and I'm still stumped on what else to give my bridesmaids? I'm not sure why I'm having so much trouble. I guess it's because they are all so different.

    So far:
Paid for shoes for the day of wedding ( on sale at Nine West!) and already gave the shoes to them

To bring to the rehearsal dinner...
Necklace, Bracelet & Earrings for the day of wedding ( wholesale!)

I'm planning on getting each girl a gift card to their favorite restaurant
I was thinking of getting each girl a lip gloss as well
I'd like to put one more thing with it? Any ideas?

I thought about paying for their pedicures but 2 of the girls can't go.

Just so you know here's what my fiance bought for his groomsmen:
Football tickets for a guys day out
    Engraved pocket knifes
T-Shirts with an inside joke that they share
(I think he did a great job!)

    • ANSWER:
I am doing a little makeup bag that says "Bridesmaid" on it. I put in matching compact mirrors and luggage tags (destination wedding). I also bought them necklaces, and will probably put in hair barrettes or lip gloss. I highly recommend going to the dollar store or a Michael's dollar bin and seeing what you can find.

For you, maybe go to a perfume store and buy each one of those sample size designer perfumes, or a compact mirror, a small box of good chocolate, or a bottle of nice OPI brand nail polish.

  8. QUESTION:
    California Knife Laws?
I was just wondering if it is legal to carry this Stainless Steel Consort Knife in public. It looks just like this one http://www.promo-wholesale.com/Upfiles/Prod_l/Barlow-Stainless-Steel-Consort-Knife_20090741354.jpg however, the size may differ. Mine is 7 in. in length and 1 in. in width. I've looked at the california laws and not sure how to distinguish this knife between a pocket or gravity knife. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Folding knives such as that are legal to carry in California regardless of their length, provided there isn't some kind of local city law such as in LA. Folding knives that open with one hand via a thumb-stud or an "assisted opening" spring mechanism are legal as well.

"Gravity knives" are extremely rare despite what a lot of people seem think. How they work is you hold the knife a certain way and press a button, and the blade literally FALLS out into position without any movement from your hand. This is actually not a very good design which is why they are so rare, but they were popular back in WWII for paratroopers to cut themselves out of trees.

Switchblades are actually legal in California but they have to have blades under 2 inches. These have actual switches, not just a spring. Butterfly knives count as switchblades under the phrasing of CA law, because they are opened via "the weight of the blade."

Wholesale On Pocket Knives Sets

The Campers Hunting Kit Knife Set is an inexpensive generic set of knives that is perfect for the young camper, hunter, or hiker in your life. The set includes two knives: a folding single-edged knife, and a Swiss Army style knife.

The folding knife is 4 ½ inches long and both the blade and handle are camouflaged. So whether the owner plans on going camping, fishing, hunting, or just wants to play army, this knife will suit him well. The knife can either be carried in the pocket, or clipped on using the detachable pocket clip.

The Swiss Army type knife has 13 functions including two blades, a bottle opener, scissors, a toothpick, and other various tools. It also includes a compass and an LED light. It is 4 inches with all the tools closed, thus making it easily transportable either in a pocket or a backpack. Many sites advertise this as a Swiss Army knife, but it can easily be seen that this inexpensive knife is just not up to the standards of a genuine or original Swiss Army knife. (Please read my previous article on the difference between a “Genuine” Swiss Army knife and an “Original” Swiss Army knife.)

While these knives are not suitable for the serious hunter or camper, it would make a perfect gift for a child. As with all knives, these also can be potentially dangerous if the young owner is not taught the proper use of a knife. However, based on the fact that the Campers Hunting Kit Knife Set is not expensive, it is camouflaged, and the multi-functional knife has a “cool” factor to it, any child would be proud to be its owner.
